Author Alexander McCall Smith’s Precious Ramostwe is brought to life-in the form of Jill Scott. The film, which is due for release sometime in 2008, is an adaptation of the popular detective novel series entitled No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. Precioius Ramostwe is the first and only female private detective in Bostwana who, as I am sure you’ll have guessed, has her work cut out for her.

In addition to Jill Scott, the cast includes Anika Noni Rose, who if you remember starred alongside Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls, and the talented Idris Elba of Daddy’s Little Girls as well as a wonderful African cast. I am interested to hear Jill and Anika’s accents and how well they will fit into the roles of traditional African women. On the other hand, the fact that Precious is a P.I makes her that much more interesting, especially seeing how that plays out in the world around her. McCall describes her as warm, very intuitive and not a little humourous. It should be a fun watch.

Here’s hoping to a good adaptation. Plus a little publicity would do no harm to Bostwana. Not too many films get shot in this part of Africa (apart from South Africa) so we hope they do it justice!
